it is fair. not great, but fine. it is free standing. I purchased the black version. somehow slightly darker than I imagined or I thought based on the image. it is stable, freestanding. it was well packaged. it also is what it is, a fairly cheap flat pack headboard. honestly, there didn't seem to be a lot of good options for dark headboards.
the downside, the directions weren't that great. thankfully the piece isn't that complicated to put together. there are exposed 1/2" fastener heads they want you to place stickers over; this is inside the bookcase portion. I thought that was on the chintzy side. On the outside edges the fasteners are recessed into the thicker portion of the frame. they're saying here is this 1/4" deep hole, you can see the natural colored wood inside the hole, but here is a sticker to cover it. that doesn't work well. I feel like i need to find and cut a dowel to fill in the recess before placing the sticker. Even having a plastic plug would have been better.
