Very happy with the bed. Looks great in our guest room. It is not as bright/reddish orange color as pictured but more brown but beautiful. It is very well made, solid wood and easy to put up but HEAVY. We did the white glove delivery and glad we did. You have two options on the bed rails. In standard position the part your mattress, springs etc sit on is 8" from the floor. You can flip the rails and the part it sits on is now 13" from the floor. We have gone with that option and using a solid support system (plywood or bunkie board) rather than the slats. This eliminates the need for box springs. With a 14.5 inch mattress the height from the floor is now 28 inches (add 1/2 inch for support system) and comes just above (by about 3 inches) the bottom of the solid part of headboard leaving no gap for your pillows, remotes, etc to slide through. Happy with all my orders from Wayfair.

I had the same problem as a previous customer noted. There are just a few slats when bed is assembled. While I was told it did not require a box spring, the number of slats are not sufficient to properly support the mattress. This was also confirmed by the people who brought the bed and assembled. As an alternative, we had to go out and purchase plywood to lay over the slats for support of the mattress as we did not want the height of the box springs for the bed. Otherwise the bed is very nice, very sturdy, which is why I rated it the way I did. Please revise your answer to whether a box spring is needed. Thank you

This is not a platform bed. There are slats that have to be attached. The bed is beautiful but I was told when I phoned that a box spring is not needed. It is needed. There is no solid platform for mattress to sit on. We had to go out and look for box springs after delivery since we were informed incorrectly. I highly recommend you purchase a low profile box spring or add more slats then what are shipped with the bed.
