This bed is truly lovely and I’m quite impressed. The bed that we had before was a huge dark wooden monstrosity of a sleigh bed from a name brand furniture store. It was extremely heavy and quite sturdy and it had storage underneath, but it became outdated with our bedroom and I wanted something more modern and lighter in color with a padded headboard. This fit that bill perfectly! I was a little nervous about ordering a bed online and not sure if I could trust the sturdiness of something that all comes in one box, but once I got it together, it has proven to be extremely sturdy - maybe more so than the big, heavy previous bed. The one box that it arrives in is well packaged and it does take two people to move it, but once I laid out all of the parts and started putting it together, it seems like it’s very well engineered and constructed, and the instructions are thoughtful and accurate. It did take me around an hour and a half to two hours, but I was doing it alone. I’m very precise and methodical about following directions and these directions were very good. I do miss the storage drawers that I had underneath the old bed, but I ordered a new bench from Wayfair to go in the windowsill to take the place of some of that storage. This bed sits a little bit lower than my previous bed, but I don’t mind - it still is higher than chair height. I’m 5’6” and when I stand next to this with our 12 inch mattress on it, it hits a few inches above my knee, almost mid thigh. It fits my standard king mattress perfectly, like it was made for it! In the listing pictures of the headboard, the little side L’s look more protrusive than they are. They’re actually very subtle. It gives the bed a nice frame feeling without actually being something that you’re going to bump into. The total height listed is based on the height at the highest point of the arch of the headboard, but I find it to be completely sufficient and about the same height as the headboard on the old sleigh bed. The chenille fabric is very soft. It is a lovely light cream color with a slight woven texture. The padding isn’t extra extravagant, but it is sufficient. All the pieces came wrapped in plastic, but somehow the bottom of the top part of the headboard still came with a small scuff mark on it that I haven’t been able to get out; the way I prop pillows up makes it mostly unnoticeable. There were no marks, dings, or scratches on anything else. The wooden legs at the feet are a very nice touch. Structurally, it’s very supportive, because for a king size bed it actually has 2 support beams underneath the middle of the bed, in addition to the sides, rather than one support beam like a lot of beds do. There’s also a support leg on the middle of each side, which gives it good structure, but I have stubbed my foot into a couple of times - I’ll get used to it. The slats are pretty sturdy, actually wood and they nicely velcro to the frame. It doesn’t make any noise and it doesn’t move. Our mattress is a 12-inch thick temperature-pedic foam that is very heavy and this bed holds up to 1000 pounds, so it isn’t having any trouble with the weight of the mattress and 2 average size adults. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this and find it to be exactly what I was looking for and more! I highly recommend this.
