Magnificent chair! I was hesitant to purchase it with some of the reviews mentioning difficult assembly, but the wife and I are good with doing projects together around the house so I took the chance. I figured if we couldn't get it together I would hang the carved wood and leather pieces on the wall as some form of decorative art :) Either we got lucky, or we knew what we were doing, but most everything went smoothly. Took the two of us no more than 45 minutes to finish the assembly. A few tips and tricks of what we did. As others mentioned, have a rubber mallet handy. Don't expect the dowels to easily slide in the holes. They need to be tight to give the chair rigidity. Put some type of lubricant on the dowels to ease entry into the holes. A dry lubricant is less messy. I used a simple bar of soap, rubbing it over the ends of all the dowels before beginning. I measured the depth of the holes, with most all of them being exactly one inch deep. I then placed a mark one inch from the end of the dowel which was to be inserted into the hole to know when the dowel bottomed out. With a tight fitting dowel you sometimes think it's bottomed out but it's not. The mark makes sure you have reached bottom, thus making sure everything will be in sync and lined up. And very important, make sure to hammer parts together with equal and even pressure and torque. So if you have four dowels which need to go into four holes simultaneously, hammer dowel no. 1 slightly, then no. 2 slightly, and so on. Then go back to no. 1 and tap a little more, then no. 2 a little more, etc. Continue like this to make sure you have gradual even and equal pressure as the various parts are attached together. With the chair finished it's very solid, and there is a slight amount of padding under the leather covering on the seat bottom and back to aid in comfort. No glue, nails, screws or brackets needed by us! One very minor negative, the right arm rest has some slight upward movement when rocking the chair. Glue in that spot would probably fix it but, as I said, very minor so I'll just leave it unless it gets worse over time. Overall, the chair is beautiful and matches my den perfectly. Thank you Wayfair!!

I love this chair. It is absolutely beautiful. Some reviews say it is hard to assemble and it did take a little sanding on a couple of the dowels and some nudging with a rubber mallet but when finished it was sturdy with no wobbling. I am a 77 yo woman and put it together by myself in about an hour and a half. I am so happy with this purchase. If you like the style don't hesitate to buy it. The leather work is perfection.
