The only con to this product is that it doesn't take paint very well, so either use some primer or just be prepared to paint multiple coats. To keep the definition of the carving, you need to take time to get the paint into all of the crevices without letting the paint pool in them, so it requires patience and time and multiple coats. I painted it with a brown paint and added a black wash to define the carving. It's really gorgeous. You'd never know it's PVC. Really lightweight, easy to cut, and goes up with just a few finishing nails into drywall, so really easy to hang. It's PVC with a foam inner core, so weighs almost nothing. I'm using it to frame a balcony sliding door that didn't have any moulding around it. Fast shipping, arrived undamaged.

We recently purchased a beautiful 1925 house that had been flipped. Our fireplace had a very small mantle piece that was surprisingly disappointing compared to the lovely brick fireplace beneath it. We really didnt have the money or expertise to remove this small, painted mantelpiece so we looked around for a 5 1/2 moulding to attach around the outside, level with the surface of the mantle. Finding one that looked appropriate to the age of the house was not an easily accomplished feat. Fortunately we found this product that looked beautiful. My husband sanded the surface of the mantle then we attached the chair railing to the edges on the sides and front. He then stained the wood and the attached moulding as one much bigger appearing mantle piece. The result is spectacular. The product made it easy to use. I wish there was a way to attach a photo to this review. We love it.
