I've used this in a gas fire pit, as well as in my outdoor stone fireplace that i purchased from Wayfair, as an alternative to the coal bricks. It worked perfectly.

I purchased these for our gas fire place. We are very happy with them now, but it took some figuring out. The product info and directions could have been more detailed for care and first use, so let me save you some time and research… It obviously takes a little time to arrange them in a way that looks nice, but once lit they initially emitted a very strong chemical smell. We turned out the fire immediately and did some research online learned they needed to be cleaned first. Because they are ceramic, they should not be wet. We did what was suggested, which was to use a large, dry paint brush to dust them off, then used compressed air to blow off extra dust. After this easy 20 minute task, we tried again and had absolutely no smell! (I do recommend wearing gloves to deal with them, especially if you have any sensory issues. They are very porous and the texture felt like the sound of nails on a chalkboard.) For the size of our fireplace, we ended up leaving out two of the logs. They actually help to throw more heat than running the fireplace without them, AND they glow like embers when the fire is put out, which we were tickled by, because , you know, simple pleasures. Please note that the soot in the fireplace photos was there before. I’m pretty sure the previous homeowners before us burned wood in the fireplace and I’ve never been able to get it fully clean. Overall, I recommend these for the price, just be prepared to do a little prep before getting cozy.
