Gorgeous floor! Took just hours to install and is stunning!

I am writing this review as my husband is struggling to install this flooring, because consumers deserve a CLEAR WARNING before purchasing this product. How this product has only 5-star reviews until now is ... suspicious. First, the flooring is not from a company called Montserrat. It is from a company called Tropycal Flooring (see image). As best we could find, this is an Indonesian company that manufactures the flooring in China and ships it to the US via South America and/or Mexico under the “license” of something called Flooring Industries C1245. This company has no website or obvious online presence, although other stores seem to carry some of its products. Nothing on the flooring boxes indicates the name “Augustus” either (see packaging detail image). The only thing on the boxes that matched the product description on Wayfair is the Color Name (we ordered Royal Blanca). Second, as we opened boxes to begin installation, we found many pieces had very noticeable chips on the front (see images). We also found pieces that were intentionally cut (as though someone had previously attempted to install that plank). The cut piece was THEN PUT BACK IN THE BOX. For example, we found a piece with a clearly cut edge that was much shorter than a full plank. (See image.) We later found, in the same box, what seems to be the rest of that piece. (See image.) We’ve also found pieces have broken grooves where the click-and-lock installation connects, making them unusable. The instructions warn that you should not install any plank that is shorter than 16” to prevent compromise of the plank on load bearing, so we’ve had at least 3 planks so far that are a total waste. We now have half of the installation completed and are concerned about two things. First, we ordered more than enough square footage to cover the room we’re re-flooring, because we anticipated that WE might make some cut mistakes. However, the broken/chipped pieces are so numerous, we may run out, and I am seriously pained at the thought of having to give this company any more of our money. Second, we chose this floor specifically because it was rated for light commercial / heavy residential use. But, it didn’t even seem capable of surviving shipping without damage, let alone furniture placement and foot traffic. IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT use a hammer when connecting these planks, or you will definitely chip/break them. Use a rubber mallet and a hardwood floor plate with a light touch (and a lot of patience). Also, SAVE YOUR REMNANTS. You will no doubt find yourself in need of them to replace chipped pieces over time. So, while the color is great (albeit lighter than the image online), I highly recommend avoiding both this particular flooring and anything from the “Montserrat” store, because the representations regarding manufacturing and quality cannot be trusted. It may seem like a bargain, but that's only because you're buying someone else's discards repackaged as though they are new.
