This is a review of the delivery process which was fine. We have not installed units yet because we (wife and I) are elderly and cannot move the heavy units from their packaging to the windows where they will be situated once we get help. I'll make a further comment once I get them running.

I did my homework before. I purchased this portable air conditioner. It was a big mistake. Everything I have read about this brand was good.

Installation instructions are hard to follow. Pictures are unclear and there are minimal written instructions. It took me a couple of hours by trial and error. The unit can be pointed in only one direction (not supposed to twist the hose) which limits its flexibility. The window adapter is much flimsier than I would have thought for one of the most expensive portable a/c models on the market. (This rating is based on my set-up experience. I haven't tested the cooling ability of the unit as yet.)

I ordered the Whynter 1230WN to cool my 600 sq ft well insulated garage so I could use it in the summer in the Phoenix area. The day I installed the unit the outside temp was 110 degrees and the temperature inside the garage was 95 (It seems to stay at 95 on the garage even when the outside temp is 115.) The garage is well insulated. I installed the unit and left it on for over 4 hours, the temperature in the garage was not lowered at all. Nice cold air was blowing from the unit at high speed, but I could only feel the cool air if I stood within about 2 or 3 feet directly in front of the blower. That is not how I work on projects in the garage. I tried the same unit in a small bedroom @ 160 sq ft. On that day,the outside temp was around 95. A breaker It immediately tripped. I reset the breaker and turned everything else on the breaker off. Including the WIFI router (which had been carefully placed to be centrally located in order to avoid the dead zones I'd been experiencing. The Whynter 1230WN did reduce the temp about 1 degree every 20 minutes. Most of the room did feel comfortable. Also, although the window sealing strips seem to do a good job sealing the gaps between the window and the vent kit, I noticed, an unsealed gap all around vent itself and the window slider vent opening and larger gaps around each of 4 small openings where the vent snaps into the window slider. These gaps were definitely large enough for flying or crawling insects. The Window sliders are quite flimsy and easy to remove just by pushing. I'm slim enough that I could remove the window slider, and squeeze through the 9 1/2" opening sideways - even if there was a window lock or stopper in place. As for portability, the Whynter 1230WN is fairly easy to move, but uninstalling and reinstalling is more of a nuisance than I want to deal with. Moving it seasonally would be ok, but using it in one room at night and another during the day would not work for me. I am only in one room at a time, and didn't want to cool the whole house. I would keep it for the garage alone if it cooled the whole garage, but it does not. It was 110 outside and 95 inside the garage when I tested the unit. It stayed d05 the whole time. To be fair, I did call before I ordered the unit to ask about the published temperature range. I told the rep about the summer temps in Phoenix and wanting to use it in my garage. I was told that the unit works best at the recommended temperature range. So I ordered it. I would reconsider this unit if I always planned to use it in one closed room and lived in a climate with temps not exceeding 90 degrees. But, being used to much higher temps, if I lived in such a place, I probably wouldn't need auxiliary air conditioning. My rating of 2 is for the Phoenix summer climate. I assume it works far better in a cooler climate.

I tested the unit after attaching to the window. I appears to work well, and the controls easy to read and understand. I have not used it full time yet since it has not been very hot. The real test will come when the temperature rises.

I liked it a lot. Noise wise it’s great blending with house conversationsnoise . Cool wise I like the fact it doesn’t make up moistwater humidity around air vent . it doesn’t seem to cool at first because it’s very well balanced so you won’t feel this freezer fridge moist like other ac units but once it cools the room it feels fresh not freezing cold but like regular normal fresh air if you lower temp it would definitely get colder but again it’s well balanced and it feels like you are in a cold weather. I like the structure seem very sturdy and functional . I own another GE AC and I preferred this Whynter unit it’s more powerful with less noise. It cools up my living room and dining room . I do recommend it . I wasn’t familiar with this brand . Glad I found it and last look for the decibel level If you want a quiet one this is a 43 decibel and it’s great. Not loud sounds like a regular fan .

Great room A/C. I have it on a lightly enclosed screen porch of about 350 sq ft. Boom. @95 deg outside it’s 74 inside. It’s quiet given the output. The dual hose design is perfect for performance. Definitely recommend. And their customer service is terrific. Same with Wayfair’s. And no - I was not paid for this review. It’s a great purchase.
