Yale Assure 2: A Smart Lock That Fails Dumbly My Yale Assure 2 lock failed just after two years of use—conveniently outside the warranty window. One day it stopped working entirely, displaying an undocumented error code and becoming non-responsive. It didn’t mechanically jam; it entered an unknown error state, likely tied to Bluetooth failure. I verified with a spectrum analyzer—there was no longer any Bluetooth signal being emitted. For a “smart” device, that’s an unacceptable and catastrophic failure mode. Support from Yale was equally frustrating. The help pages have broken links, and when I finally reached someone by email, the response was disjointed and ineffective. I was passed between multiple reps over days, each suggesting random fixes with no consistency or escalation. One even asked me to reinstall the lock despite the clear evidence it had failed at a hardware level. Even during its working life, the lock was mediocre. The auto-unlock feature—supposedly a key convenience—only worked reliably about 10% of the time. It was more often a source of frustration than ease. For a premium-priced security product, this experience has been an epic fail. Poor reliability, worse support, and a fundamental lack of robustness in both software and hardware. I strongly recommend anyone considering a smart lock make a smarter decision than choosing Yale.

I tend to be sympathetic with my reviews unless it's clear a product is faulty and this lock is faulty. Don't bother. It'll fail on you before a year and unfortunately seems to be common. Even with all new batteries, lithium or not, it'll just not work. I've read 'resets' are recommended but good luck doing that when it doesn't have any power. Just do yourself a favor and go with something that's made to last.

I purchased the Yale Assure Lock 2 in 2022, primarily driven by the promise that it would support the Matter standard, a feature prominently highlighted in Yale’s press release and reiterated in numerous product reviews. Unfortunately, my experience with this product has been marred by unfulfilled promises. Hardware The Yale Assure Lock 2 is a robust and well-designed smart lock. Installation was straightforward, and to this day the lock continues to function well with the basic features. However, the key selling point for me was the future support for the Matter standard, which was supposed to be implemented shortly after the Matter standard became available. At the time of the release of the Assure Lock 2 Yale stated in an official press release that Matter support would be added once the Matter standard was ready. This assurance played a significant role in my decision to purchase the Assure Lock 2. However, despite Yale considering the Matter standard ready enough to release the Assure Lock SL with Matter compatibility in 2023, there has been no update or communication about when, or if, the Assure Lock 2 will receive Matter compatibility. In addition to this Yale's product page for the Assure Lock 2 no longer makes any mention of Matter support. While I find the lock to be well made, I am extremely disappointed by the lack of promised features. For a product that was supposed to be cutting edge and "one of the first Matter-compatible smart locks on the market" it feels stuck in the past and lacking key features that would make it truly useful. Yale’s inability to follow through on their promises raises concerns about their commitment customers and product integrity. Until Yale provides a definitive update or a resolution regarding Matter compatibility, I cannot recommend the Assure Lock 2 to anyone who values future-proofing their smart home technology.

Love the style and construction of this lock. It is actually the 3rd Yale electronic lock that I have installed on several homes. They work well and fit in well with a modern aesthetic.

I have been a Yale smart lock user for few years now. I have installed more than a dozen of the original Yale keyless Assure locks in few of my apartment buildings and they all worked well. The Yale Assure Lock 2 is a test lock for a apartment and it worked well. I wish Yale had kept the voice response from original Assure. I also wish Yale would integrate battery backup in the keyed Assure 2 as well. The current phone app makes programming the lock quick and easy.

Lock failed after only two years. Electronic failure is not covered under the warranty.

Great improvement over its predecessor. Connectivity is 100% more stable and hardware seems more sturdy. Look is also more minimal. Works smoothly and fast whenever the close/open function is sent from wireless device. Super happy with this purchase.
