hard to tell. it unpredictably goes red for a little while. I think its triggered by moisture in the air. When there is obvious smells and pollution it doesn't auto change,

The Winix 5500-2 is a 4 stage true Hepa air purifier. I've owned several Winix air purifiers and have always had good luck using them as they operate sufficiently and maintaining them is a breeze. When you change the filter in this Winix 5500-2 model it's obvious that it is doing it's job based on everything the filter has filtered out of the air. Yes, I would recommend this air purifier.

Love my air purifier! Its helped reduce pet dander by a lot. I however am just now seeing a remote is included (i got on to find replacement air filters), yet I never received one with mine. Also would be nice if they could link what replacements we will need when the time comes because I see a few options and idk which one to get. Would also be nice if they made it clearer on which filter you clean yourself and what you replace. I would give 5 stars if I had a remote.

I've been using this for two days and so far so good. It seems like very good quality and it isn't loud.
