The pump system is broken. It comes with batteries that charge with solar energy. Normal batteries do not work. It would make more sense to have the ability to put in normal batteries to supplement the unit when the sun is not out. Because these solar batteries included last at most an hour. So for most of the day and all of the night and evening and early morning, you end up with just a fountain of stagnant water, which is less than ideal. The fountain itself is nice and while it is a bit light (because it does not hold much water), it looks pretty and weathers very well. After a few seasons, it looks even more like real stone. So you would need to weigh it down. I have it in the middle of my garden surrounded by large plants, so I weighed it down with large rocks and plant materials. But if the manufacturer made each level deeper, to hold more water (maybe the bottom pool could extend down to the closest groove underneath, change the shape a bit to give sufficient room for the top pool to double its depth as well, then it would hold double the water and be significantly heavier. Another idea would be to include a hole and plug at the bottom so that the hollow base could be filled with sand or pebbles for weight).
The pump is good but mostly this fountain needs a better charging system so that the unit could work 24 hours, or at least 16 or 18. The unit should not be dependant on solar alone, but only supplemented by solar energy. Also, the switch for the unit to switch from solar to batteries needs to be pressed manually EVERY TIME. Which is a problem. It should switch automatically. I found the YouTube channel Pretty Purple Door Garden Design, in which the professional gardener of this channel, tests solar pump systems and it is possible. I would pay double the price of this fountain if I could get a fountain that is heavier and that works on batteries and solar and runs close to 24 hours most days.
