First of all, this chandelier, while pretty, takes alot of assembly. There are over 50 small pieces of wire with O rings on each end. One of the O rings on each of them needs connected to a very tiny latch on the base. Once thats done, each of the bulbs needs connected. They tangle very easily while assembling, although the instructions say to do it while its already connected to the ceiling, I dont see how thats possible because it is extremely time consuming and would be a physical strain. The instructions are basically a drawing without words on how to do it, so if you are putting it together, Bag 1 starts at the outside, and you work your way inward to Bag 2 and so forth. (I learned the hard way and had to start over after starting in the middle, so just a FYI). If you dont have steady hands, good eyesight, and patience, you may want to consider adding Assembly or asking somebody for help. Now for the construction...the base is made of metal and sturdy. All hardware comes with it, but you will need to add your own bulbs. The instructions are clear on the copper being the ground and which wire is positive and negative. The bulbs appear to be glass and when they touch one another, they have a glass sound, but not thin glass, more substantial, the type that seem like they will hold up over time. The size is not overwhelming, but it still makes a rather nice impact for a traditional setting. After assembly was done, it was worth it to have such a nice addition.
