1 Unfinished Bar Stool 3 Ways
We transformed a bar stool into three stylish seats using Krylon spray paint and a little imagination!
1. Pick a piece of furniture to redo; smooth surface with sandpaper.
2. Select an amazing Krylon ® COVERMAXX ™ hue; there are nearly 100 to choose from!
3. Prep your well-ventilated work space with a drop cloth. For safety, wear gloves and glasses.

We used two coats of Krylon® COVERMAXX™ navy blue spray paint to refresh this stool and give it a rich hue. After the paint dried, we distressed the stool with sandpaper and steel wool.
Tip! Steel wool added actual scratches to the wood, which lent a worn-in feel that we loved! If you aren't looking for a rustic look, we recommend sticking to a fine sandpaper.
Tip!
Add ropes around the rungs for a nautical touch. We wrapped the rope around and secured it with nails on either end. You can also secure the rope with wood glue. Easy
Modern Colour Blocking
For this vibrant design, we painted the rungs and seat bright white. Then we painted the top half of the legs using four shades of Krylon COVERMAXX (Bahama Sea, Island Splash, Blue Ocean Breeze, and Sea Glass). To create the look, we taped off the legs at varying heights.
Tip! Pick a duo of complementary colours for a bold update. For an understated Scandinavian look consider using four shades of sunny yellows or melon oranges.
Tip!
We used painter's tape to create a modern design on the seat. To avoid peeling up the paint and to ensure crisp lines, pull the tape off about a minute after you paint the design. Medium
We covered the entire stool Krylon® COVERMAXX™ in matte black for a sleek, glamorous feel. COVERMAXX is a spray paint and primer in one, so we gave it two light coats. After the spray paint dried, we painted gold leaf onto the bottom of the legs for a subtle luxe look. We marked off a section of the bottom of the stool legs with painter's tape to avoid dripping.
To infuse a lighthearted feel into the serious stool, we covered the seat with an inexpensive faux flokati rug.
Tip!
Use a staple gun to attach a flokati to the underside of the stool. Leave some of the rug peeking out underneath the stool for a full, shaggy feel. Medium
