We absolutely love our Mandujano Murphy Bed in the Barnwood finish. After downsizing, we needed our larger office to double as a guest room, and this bed is perfect. It’s solid wood, extremely well built, and the design is brilliant — when folded up, it looks like a beautiful chest of drawers, and the bottom drawer is a real storage drawer that holds pillows, sheets, and a blanket. We bought the matching mattress thinking we might upgrade it later, but it’s genuinely comfortable. When our twin sons were visiting, one son slept on it with a plush topper and liked it so much he stayed in the Murphy bed even after the guest room became available when his brother departed. The Barnwood color blends perfectly with my wife’s Italian furniture, and the stowed design leaves room for a wall‑mounted TV above it. Shipping took a bit longer than I would have expected, but it's a very heavy piece of furniture at 362 pounds and it has to be shipped in four different containers by a freight company. We love the color. It's a neutral gray, so not too brown and not too blue, and the material is solid engineered wood. The directions were good and the hardware is well made and everything fit nicely. It is quite a task to put together, so if you're not experienced it is going to be a challenge. We are experienced, but the only reason we knocked it down from a 5 to a 4 is that no matter what we did - and we followed directions exactly as written - the cabinet would not close completely with the mattress on it. After trying everything we decided to take off the straps that are attached to it, and bend the mattress in half, lie on it to keep it tightly together, and then shut the frame inside. It’s a great space-saving solution that also looks attractive and blends nicely into the room. Assembly took about 6 hours with one person, even though the instructions recommend two people. That said, the directions were straightforward and easy to follow. Most of the pre-drilled holes were properly aligned, which made the process smoother than expected. There was some minor cosmetic damage on one panel and a small gap between panels, as shown in the photos, but both are in areas that aren’t very visible, so it’s not a major concern. While I haven’t fully tested the mattress yet, it seems like it will hold up well for occasional guest use. Overall a beautiful and functional Murphy bed. Came well packaged in 2, heavy, boxes. As other reviews have stated, it takes a considerable amount of time to assemble, it took me a little over 3 hours. There were a couple steps that were a bit confusing and I had to go back and switch things around but for the most part, pretty good instructions overall. My only complaint is the bolts for the handles and knobs were just barely long enough, the first one I accidentally over tightened and it broke. Exercise extreme caution with the knobshandles. Assembly took ~6 person hours with a couple of mistakes that required taking some pieces apart and reassembling. Multiple pieces were not labeled with numbers and the instructions were somewhat difficult to follow. This piece is very sturdy but note that it weighs ~240 lbs in total. Converting it from a cabinet to a bed is definitely a 2 person operation as the top is quite heavy. A 6" trifold mattress just barely fits - it makes it hard to use the latch and puts pressure on the front panel such that it slightly bends outwards. First, I was sent the wrong colour (I got gray but ordered white) but had to keep it because there was no time to get anything else (the delivery was on time, I was late ordering). The mattress cover was so soft! There was a board that the thin coloured layer separated at the seam showing the press wood below (see picture) and a place where the intentionally exposed press wood had a small separation visible. None affected the use or safety of the product. The mattress was found to be surprisingly comfortable. I give it a 4 due to the above deficiencies ignoring the fact that I was sent the wrong colour.
