It has two lift up tops, one that keeps the trash bag in place and the second one where you throw your trash into that closes so tightly so that no trash will escape and no bugs can get in! I used a 39 gallon trash bag so it folds the excess bag over the top. I think a 30-35 gallon would probably be the perfect size. Very sturdy and so easy to assemble.
