just big enough. looks nice. took a while to figure out the motion/automatic light. i had to download the instructions. I also bought solar clip-on lights from TEMU and put them on the steps for extra light if someone forgets and turns off the wall lantern. UPDATE: Because the light is located at the top of the 4 steps the motion detector does not register movement at a lower immediate level. The detector is located at the very top of the light thus the lighting case blocks all motion directly below the case box. Not good. I recognize it cant be at the bottom as it would block the opening. The bottom opening allows for easy changing of a light bulb. the motion will register at a distance but that is NOT what I intended for it to be, otherwise nice light. I could have placed it at a different area of the steps and it would have worked as needed. Hindsight is too late, LOL.
