It does come with a battery and an easy on/off switch. The solar panel is on top. It was so quick to install and does not require any tools. I would want a few more of them for cohesion on a patio, or as "fairy lights" in my garden.

I hung it on my porch for a day and at night the design shined so brightly my grandkids love it. It is solar powered so you don’t have to worry about batteries. So far it has worked great.

It’s easy to put together and can be stored flat if you want to take it down. It’s super lightweight and gives just enough light to create a cozy ambiance. I’ve moved mine around several times from the garden to the porch and plan on taking it on my next camping trip. Definitely recommend and I plan to invest in a couple more.
