Find the largest piece of jadestone and the next largest that are dead center in the photo. Now imagine that they are both opaque to light - light will not shine through. When you look at the lamp in daylight, all the pieces are colored and it looks nice. At night, when lighted, it looks good too - but - my lamp has the two pieces in it that appear black and not translucent like the rest. You do not see anything like that in the photo. I called Wayfair and they were very nice about it. The lady said I could get a replacement, but it might have the same problem. She offered me 25 if I kept the lamp I have. Since I can turn the two panels to the back of the lamp, I took the discount and kept it. I know lamps are expensive, but personally, I think this one is worth about $200, not $350. If you put two regular 60 watt bulbs in it, you will see just a bit of the edge of the bulbs below the shade. It you find candelabra bulbs with a standard base, they won't show. The shade itself is only about 7.5 vertical inches and so the lamp itself is a bit small overall. Also, note that it is a little top-heavy because the shade is jadestone. It is fine sitting on the table, just be careful if you go to move it.
