We opted to keep it flush against the ceiling, which works beautifully in our office without overwhelming the space.

Looks great and I really like it, but I gave it 4 stars since the rod/light fixture moves around to allow for a sloped ceiling install, which I don't have, so getting it straight was a hassle.
