Exactly what we wanted! Relatively easy to install (we chose to hardwire), slightly antique looking (not too gaudy), and perfect for reading in bed. Only downside is that you need to turn the switch on to almost full before the lightbulb turns on, and then dim it down to preferred setting. We are using LEDs so maybe this is not an issue with other styles of bulbs.
