I have prior experience in installing ceiling fans in my home and family members homes. In fact, this fan was purchased to replace a fan that I installed in my bedroom over 20 years ago.
Overall, I like the fan's look and operating features. I especially like that I have the option of using the remote or wall light switch to turn the lights on or off, provided I always leave the remote in the "lights on" position when I want to use the light switch to control the lights.
When I read the installation instructions that came with this fan, I realized that if I explicitly followed the instructions, it would have been difficult for me to install the fan without having a second person to assist me. Specifically, the installation instructions directs you to attach the fan blades and light fixture to the fan motor on the floor. Then you are to lift the entire assembly and hang it on the fan's ceiling bracket hook, so the fan wires could be connected to the wires coming out of the ceiling. This meant that the fan would be hanging from the ceiling bracket hook at an angle while the wires were being connected. In addition to the fan assembly being heavy to lift onto the hook, the fan blades would have made it awkward to get to the ceiling wires, not to mention the blades may have been rubbing against the ceiling while the fan hung at an angle. Plus, once the wires were connected, the fan assembly has to be lifted off the ceiling bracket hook, so it could mounted to the ceiling bracket.
I will confess that it would have been much easier to follow the instructions and attach the fan blades and light fixture to the fan motor while it was on the floor. In my opinion, the benefit of first mounting the fan motor to the ceiling bracket before attaching the fan blades and light fixture outweigh the benefit of attaching them before mounting the fan motor to the ceiling bracket. I should point out that I recently installed a similar style fan fan in another room, and the installation instructions had you install the fan the way I chose to install this fan.
Finally, my reason for not giving a 5 rating is not because of the poor installation instructions. Rather, the picture of the fan on Wayfair's site give the impression that the ceiling mounting screws are concealed, which was a determining factor that caused me to purchase the fan. Unfortunately, the mounting screws are exposed.
