We placed it alongside our sliding doors on our back entrance which has steps leading up to it. It doesn't always catch the motion until you are within 4-5 feet of it which is probably due to it being above the steps. Since we don't have another option of where to install a light there, I might have gone with another model. Good quality, though.

Unit is "Dusk to Dawn" but does not turn off in the morning. Installed on Saturday evening & set to Dusk to Dawn setting. At 10.00 AM on a bright sunny Sunday morning it was still on. Tried using an incandescent bulb, n difference. The OFF switch on the unit does not work either.
