Unlike higher end lamps, the posts are comprised of several shorter pieces of metal that you twist together to assemble. That is perfectly acceptable to me as a tradeoff for price and ease of transport (I'll be moving in a few months). To me, it looks more high-end than what the price would suggest. Pros: Adjustable height, adjustable light temperature (cooler, medium, and warmer), beautiful design, color (I got brass), and finish. Cons: The pole pieces can become loose if you move it around a lot. Most people are not going to be moving it around. I am because I specifically bought it as a puzzle light to shine over a table in the evenings, but also to use in a dark corner of the living room (primarily for reading or floor games and activities) as needed.
