My mixed thoughts... item is listed as solid wood however, all shelving is manufactured wood with solid wood frame. There is no Proposition 65 Warning listed with product description, but on arrival, item is labeled as such. I do specifically look for this warning and choose items that are manufactured without carcinogenic paints, finishes, adhesives. Once you open and start un-boxing, its unlikely youll be able to rebox to return, so I feel stuck with it. The offgassing was quite obnoxious upon opening the box, and I had to open windows and run my whole house fan for a couple hours to evacuate the smell. The assembly instructions are a mess with incorrect references to parts package-labeling and my order was missing the wood dowels entirely. I had enough dowels on-hand from a different piece of furniture and, thankfully, was able to use those. You definitely have to read through all the instructions and figure out which parts are actually needed for each step. There are a few pieces where the finish is marred right out of the box but tolerable... Ill color-match and get touch-up paint. Once you get it together, it is pretty and seems solid.
UPDATE After about a month, this item continues to offgass a strong chemical smell so much so, that I keep the door closed, window open, fan on to the room its in. Even then, when I open the door, the chemical smell is strong. I can only assume its VOCs (volatile organic compounds) from the manufactured wood and paint.. Nicole. Maumelle, AR. Fri May 31 2024
