Awesome purchase! Looking into buying a second one for other and of the pool. Exactly what we were looking for!

First, this is an artisan crafted item. Handmade with skill and attention to detail (mostly). The main pole is 2 inch bamboo and the the umbrella is constructed of a light weight raffia type material, woven into a nylon rope structure. I gave it four stars, primarily because of the craftsmanship. There are how ever a couple issues that needed to be remedied. The pole is connected together, utilizing a screw that is basically twirled into a piece of wood with a threaded female joint. This connection is totally inadequate to hold up to any type of wind or even moving... the shipping box did have a unique protection frame made of bamboo that was placed over the end of the umbrella to keep the box from being crushed. Worked perfectly and we utilized pieces of it to use as splints on the pole where the two pieces screwed together. We then wrapped the splints with manila rope for added strength and a more pleasing finished look. This made for a very sturdy main pole that has withstood some pretty stiff breezes of 10-15 mph. We have the pole secured in a heavy cast iron stand and so far, it hasn't blown over. The umbrella when opened, is held in place with a carved piece of bamboo that slips into a hole drilled into the pole. The nylon rope that is used in the rigging appears to be strong and should last quite some time. All hardware is brass. However, lifting the umbrella into an open position is a two person job. It is quite heavy and cumbersome and getting the peg in the hole to stay in place did require help. Once it's in place, it's great but this would be difficult to put up and down on a daily basis. The umbrella itself is more of a filter, as opposed to full shade. The woven raffia is spaced so there is sunlight coming thru. All in all, I really like the authentic look and handmade quality. It will require a bit of TLC for any kind of longevity but I'm happy with the purchase. Not sure if I'd buy again but didn't want to return. It fits our "Cabo in Mendo" theme. We also purchased two fishing nets to place over the top, which helps with wind ripping off pieces of raffia and adds to the ambiance. If you want a unique and crafted umbrella and have a fairly protected area, this will do the trick. It is beginning to gray out with sunlight exposure but that doesn't bother me. It makes me smile and brings back many happy memories of Mexico. This item is made in Viet Nam.

The umbrella quality is excellent and it difinitely gives a tropical appearance. However, I recommend providing a stand because the umbrella pole is too large for standard umbrella stands. I had to shave off some of the pole to fit the stand. Other than that it's absolutely gorgeous!!!!!

We actually bought two of these. When the second one arrived, the pin to hold open the umbrella was missing. Customer service was great when I called but the pin never arrived. We improvised and so far it is holding. The umbrellas are great and even held up after being blown around our yard during a wind storm. They filter enough light and air and provide a cool tiki experience.

Exactly what I’m looking for. I didn’t want a permanent structure so this is perfect.
