Girouette B17

Screw threads in one of pipes was bad. Spinner hits the airplane. They should have a real photo of actual product. I bought garden style. It's way too top heavy for the small rod that goes into the ground. The screw that holds the E-W, N-S on the pole was stuck by the coating. Only good thing was the coating is thick and should last awhile. With all the repairs I did it's worth $20 tops. That does't include mounting it to a secure 4x4 post instead of just sticking it into the dirt. I don't recommend this for people without tools and patience.

In my opinion, it was poorly made. After opening the box, I wanted to ensure everything fit. First tried to place the spinner on the shaft. Wouldn't go. Found welding spatter on the shaft. Fixed that. Tried placing the bomber vane on the shaft and found the spinner was hitting the vane. Found the bearing on the spinner wasn't properly seated. So, I couldn't get it into proper place without possible damage. So, I used pellets for an air rifle in the vane and that let the spinner work. Thinking I had all the problems fixed, I installed the base and went to loosen the screw so I could put the shaft in. Having coated the base with the screw installed, it was stuck and I ended up using a vise grip to loosen the screw before I destroyed the screw head with a screwdriver. Finally, it was installed. Would I buy it again? Probably not. Will have to see how it lasts.

High quality, quick arrival. Better than I ever expected! my Dad flew a B17 in WWII, so it had a special meaning to me.
