Basic construction solid. Screened bottom a good idea. Whole feeder heavier than it needs to be. Ribbing instead of a solid roof would help. Don't know if, when full, it may bend our shepherd's crook pole. Door to suet holder too difficult to open, especially with gloves on and holding the feeder steady with the other in winter. I added a split ring handle to make the suet holder easier to open.

We have a very bothersome bear who really likes birdseed & he has totally destroyed 3 feeders already. Then we ordered yours as it seemed to be quite sturdy and we hoped for the best. He came back two nights ago & started whacking at it (we had raised it higher as well). He was bigger than we thought & could just barely reach it & whack away, but it did not break! One of the lines to hold it did loosen and one side dropped down a bit & spilled some seeds for on the ground for "Bruno". The feeder was intact! My husband fixed the line & raised the feeder higher & we are all happy...the birds & us anyway. Bruno...not so much. (We also like the woodpecker suet cages on both ends of the feeder!)

Well built, but it had a broken window and I glued it, rather than send it back.
