Even though called extra large, it's just the right size for our 1 year old, 23 pound Corgi. It securely strapped to the vehicle and the 'seat belt' inside seems relatively safe and secure. (We purchased another brand prior to this one and the seat belt came loose almost immediately and we had to jury rig something for the rest of our trip)
