I used 2 mats at the top of a ramp in my back yard. The hill is steep and slippery -- there are fruit trees on the terrace that need watering. I used the L shaped parts that are supposed to go over the step edges to anchor the mats into the dirt at the top and bottom. Then the two straight edges I hooked together with ground stakes -- see picture. It works great and I feel safe going uphill.
