Headline WARNING Overwhelming motor oilchemical smell (Severe VOC Off-Gassing)Although this is a beautiful rug, I am incredibly disappointed and wanted to leave a warning for anyone considering purchasing it. The moment I unrolled it, my entire space filled with an extremely strong, overpowering odor resembling motor oil and harsh chemicals. After doing some research, I learned this is caused by heavy off-gassing—the release of trapped volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the synthetic materials and backing adhesives used during manufacturing.Frankly, it has made me very concerned for my health and indoor air quality. Breathing in these types of strong chemical fumes can cause headaches and throat irritation, and it is unacceptable to have to subject a household to this.If this extremely strong odor does not completely dissipate within the next 24 hours, I will be returning this rug immediately. I recently purchased area rugs from Safavieh and Magnolia Homes, and both arrived with absolutely no odor at all. I now know to stick with those brands in the future. No matter how nice it looks, it is not worth the headache.
