Changing Table Sizes & Choosing the Right One
Fit for diaper duty!
Changing tables are a necessary fixture in your nursery to help keep you and your little one clean and organized. Read on to discover the basics of changing table sizes so you can find one that suits your baby’s needs and your nursery’s layout.
1. Understand the Standard Dimensions

There are four key measurements to look for when comparing changing table sizes: height (floor to top), width (side to side), depth (front to back), and weight capacity.
Height: Standard changing tables are between 36" – 43" tall. If you or other primary caretakers are particularly tall, opt for a taller design to limit back strain.
Width: The width of changing tables varies the most based on design, but they are usually 36" – 40" wide on average. Added storage or surface space can contribute to wider tables.
Depth: Changing tables are almost always 18" – 20" deep and are designed to fit standard changing pads that are 32'' long by 16'' wide.
Weight Capacity: Changing tables are designed to accommodate babies for about the first two years of infancy or until they reach 30 – 35 lbs. Check each table for weight capacity specifications.
2. Compare Changing Table Styles

Depending on the style of the changing table, the width can vary – making some better suited for small-space nurseries. Here are two common designs and their standard sizes:
Table: Changing tables with only a pad on top are usually 33" – 37" wide – just enough to accommodate a 32" changing pad with no extra surface area. This style is a good option for a no-fuss, space-efficient changing station.
Dresser: Dresser-style changing tables are typically wider (45" – 48") to include extra storage, shelving, and even laundry hampers for convenient organization. Choose this style for additional storage space to hide away the clutter.

Changing tables are most often placed in nurseries. If your home is multilevel, however, it can be helpful to place a changing table on each floor for convenience.
For an ultra-convenient and adaptable option, choose a portable changing table that offers a small, mobile solution for baby care in any room in the home. While they still have the standard depth of 18" – 20", portable changing tables are usually between 34" – 38" high and 30" – 33" wide, making them among the smallest available.
