DIY Essential Bedroom Makeover Guide
With details you can create a magical bedroom.
Bedrooms can often remain neglected since they aren’t seen by guests. But since a bedroom is a sanctuary and oasis for yourself, you should consider it essential to make your bedroom functional and stylistic. A simple can of paint and lots warmth and texture can transform a basic square bedroom into a dramatic yet cozy retreat! One of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to transform a room is with paint. People often shy away from darker colors, but they are a great option if you want to make a big impact. The fear with darker colors is that the room may appear smaller, but dark colors give the room a cozy feel.
The Makeover Process
Our sample homeowner loves using dark colors in bedrooms to help give them a cozy feel. She and her family moved into a new home with a basic square bedroom that had no real architectural interest. The first thing that they did was paint the walls in “Tricorn Black” by Sherwin Williams. Once that was done, it was time to add in furniture and accessories. To have a balance of colors, this homeowner used white linen-style draperies and a white upholstered bed to ground the space.
After she balanced the overall color palette and added contrast, she then added warmth. One of the easiest ways to add warmth to a room is to add in some natural wood tones. She achieved this goal with wood nightstands, a desk, and a beautiful wood dresser. She added woven blinds to the windows to help add more of those warmer tones throughout the room.
Next, she added a rug that helped tie it all together. Once she added the rug to the space, she added texture and accessories. With a mix of materials and textures, you can have many layers and dimensions that makes a space immediately welcoming.
Our homeowner used faux fur throws, flannel sheets, and other cozy elements and mixed them with shiny brass accents and concrete lamps. This mix of texture adds such depth to a space. It is also important to have different stations in the bedroom. This homeowner’s bedroom has three defined little areas. There is a comfy reading chair and lamp that provides a great place to curl up with a book, a desk area to work at, and a little nook area to display favorite family photos.
Giving a room character and warmth doesn't need to be a huge undertaking! As you can see, paint, pattern, and texture can help completely transform a space and give you a cozy retreat!
