How to Achieve a Simple Bathroom Design

Personalize your bathroom on a budget with this simple bathroom design.

Complete look of the revamped bathroom

Making over a bathroom can often be a daunting task, because most people think of it as a very expensive project that can take a long time to complete. If you have serious plumbing issues, that could be true. But many times, a simple cosmetic makeover can make a massive improvement and give a boring, dated bathroom a brand-new look!
This sample homeowner’s family moved into a new home with a builder-grade master bathroom. Although the size was great, it didn't have much personality. They didn't want to spend much money, but they wanted to make the bathroom flow better with the master bedroom and update it to go with the overall style.
The Process

One of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to update a bathroom and give it more personality is to remove the large builder-grade mirrors that are in most bathrooms. Once the large mirror has been removed, a new mirror with more character can be put in its place, and the bathroom will immediately have a much more custom feel!
Another easy and inexpensive change can be adding a bold paint color. Once our homeowner had removed the large wall mirror and fixed a few small patches, they painted the walls “Tricorn Black,” which immediately gave the room a whole new feel.

After painting the walls and adding the new mirrors, they swapped out the light fixtures. This is another great way to add a lot of impact without breaking the bank. These new sconces are now one of the focal points of the room!
Swapping out hardware and faucets is another great way to make changes that can alter the overall feel of the space. They make such a difference in updating this bathroom and giving it a more modern feel. The knobs on the cabinet doors were swapped out for something unique. For a quirky touch, a leather strap and brass ring was used to hold the hand towels beside each sink.
The biggest impact on this bathroom makeover was the floor. The homeowners used peel-and-stick tiles for a budget-friendly approach to updated flooring. Usually flooring is one of the reasons people avoid making over bathrooms, because replacing tile can be an incredibly messy and time-consuming project. Our homeowners decided to go with peel and stick tiles, this entire bathroom, including the closet and toilet area, only cost around $125.

This bathroom project is a great example of a budget-friendly makeover that makes a dramatic change to a space without the expected expense. All of the ideas incorporated into this space are very DIY-friendly. Painting, using peel-and-stick flooring, and keeping your eye out for inexpensive yet stylish fixtures that can be swapped with your existing ones all make for a very easy makeover that leaves you with an updated and stylish new bathroom!
