How to Create the Perfect Reading Corner
Create a relaxing reading spot.
When you dream of the perfect reading corner what do you think of? A cozy chair next to a fireplace? Or maybe a soft bench looking out over your backyard? Below are five elements you will need to create that perfect reading corner in your own home:
Seating
Seating is going to be the most important element of your reading corner. If your sitting furniture is not comfortable you are not going to want to spend time in the space. So make sure to choose the right type of seating that will work best for you and your home. There are many types of furniture to choose from. For example, a chaise, an oversized chair, a built-in bench, a cozy accent chair and ottoman, or even an arrangement of floor pillows can give you the perfect seating for your reading corner. The sitting furniture will probably take up the majority of your budget for this project so make sure to plan accordingly.
The most common activity performed in your reading corner will most likely be reading. So having adequate lighting is a must. You can choose to use a floor lamp to illuminate the space or try an end table with a table lamp to provide necessary lighting. You will want the lighting to be warm and gentle so that you are able to see your book but feel relaxed at the same time.
Storage where you can keep your books, chargers, and anything else you may need is a must for the perfect reading corner. A few fun ideas include using an end table with drawers so that you have easy access to everything you need. You could also install floating shelves or ledge shelves to style your books and create a functional piece of wall decor. Or lastly, the perfect bookshelf would give your reading corner the opportunity for storage along with space to add decor accents and sentimental items.
Throw pillows may not be a necessity but they will definitely help you pull the space together so that you can create that perfect reading corner unique to your style. Throw pillows are elements you can take a little more risk as far as color and pattern goes because they are easy to swap out once you find a new trend you want to try. Remember to choose pillows that make you happy and show off your style.
You will also want to find a cozy, soft throw blanket for your reading corner space. Coordinate the throw blanket with the throw pillows to give the space even more color or choose a simple neutral throw blanket that will go with any space and style.
Wall decor is the last element to finish off the perfect reading corner. Choose art that coordinates with your color scheme but also gives you a sense of peace and calmness. You could choose canvas art, framed prints, a mirror or anything that catches your eye. Just make sure that your wall decor takes up at least one-third of the wall.
Every reading corner will be different and unique to each homeowner. By using these five elements you too can create the perfect reading corner for you and your home!
