Making almond flour is a simple and efficient process you can do yourself at home. You only need one ingredient and your blender to create this gluten-free and grain-free product.

You Will Need:

Step 1: Add Blanched Almonds

When you purchase your almonds for almond flour, ensure they are the raw and blanched kind. This will help maintain a neutral taste that can be used in any recipe.

  • Measure out about 1/4 cup to start with.

Step 2: Blend the Almonds

Place your blanched almonds into your high-speed blender and blitz them until you achieve a fine, powdery flour.

  • Turn the blender on its highest setting for 5–10 seconds.
  • Stop and shake the blender container to move any residual clumps to the center.
  • Blend again until fine and powdery.
  • Do not overblend your mixture as it will begin to turn into almond butter if processed for too long.

Tip!

It is also possible to create almond flour using a coffee grinder or a grain mill.

Step 3: Sieve Flour

Run the flour through a fine-meshed sieve to get rid of any larger and unprocessed pieces to ensure you get a fine texture.

Step 4: Store Flour

Transfer your newly created almond flour into an airtight container and store it for one to two months unrefrigerated or longer in the fridge.

Tip!

Take note that you cannot simply substitute regular flour for almond flour at a 1:1 ratio. It is closer to 1 cup regular to roughly 1/3 – 1/2 cup, depending on the recipe, or for every 2 or 3 cups of regular you will only want about 1 cup of the almond flour.

It is just as simple as that – this easy process will yield the freshest and most cost-effective almond flour out there. Now you know how to make almond flour, you can begin baking in a whole new way.
