How to Organize Baby Clothes
Stay organized with ease.
Bringing home a new bundle of joy can be very exciting but also overwhelming. There’s lots to set up before your little one makes their grand entrance into the world, and even more to do afterwards, so we at Wayfair want to help! Here’s how to organize baby clothes so you can easily tuck outfits out of the way for a neat and functional space without any unnecessary effort!
Step 1: Organize By Size
Babies go through a lot of clothing and some grow into bigger sizes fast. Go through your baby’s clothes and keep newborns-size to size 0–3 close by to have whenever you need a change.
Storage Baskets
Storage baskets are not only wonderful options for organizing baby clothes, but they can double as decor too! Choose from cubes, baskets, or bin storage with a printed design to match your nursery’s theme to house the first few months’ clothing. These items give you all the space you need to store neatly folded clothes for a quick grab whenever you need them.
It’s easy for baby clothes to become balled up and disorganized in drawers, so keep the space tidy thanks to drawer organizers. Drawer organizers allow you to separate different items and keep them in one compartment so nothing gets misplaced. Keep your sock in one section, onesies in another, and gowns or pants in another section. If you’re combining newborn and 0–3 month clothing in the same drawer, keep one side for the newborn clothes and the other for 0–3 month.
When your drawers get crowded, keep your nursery closet tidy with a closet organizer. These closet systems offer a lot of room for storing and organizing baby clothes since they come with multiple racks for hangers and little storage compartments like the hanging organizer you see above. You can customize what items and sizes you want to store where with these organizers, so you can keep your most-needed items handy.
Once you’ve organized your baby’s clothes and know what you’re going to use first, tuck them neatly in a baby dresser. Baby dressers come with multiple spacious drawers that can hold your onesies, gowns, and other clothing items neatly and close at hand. Pair these with a drawer organizer and you can optimize your storage (and sanity) by keeping things in the right place.
Keep clothing out in the open with an armoire! Baby armoires come with multiple ways to organize your baby’s clothing from a small rack, to pull-out bins, shelves, and more. Choose a color and finish that complements the nursery to add more decor and cuteness for your baby’s space.
A memorable way to organize your baby’s clothes or store clothes that they grow out of is with a monogrammed chest. Not only does this give you space to keep things neat in the nursery, but it is also a personalized keepsake that your baby can use as they grow up! Chests come with different depths and widths that vary depending on the length, which means you can keep your clothes laying out or in a small tub inside the chest.
Step 3: Keep Larger Clothes Ready-to-Go
While your baby waits to wear the next sizes up, keep those items ready-to-go in the closet!
Storage Bins & Totes
Plastic storage bins are excellent for keeping your later clothes packed and organized in a closet, under a bed, or tucked away in a drawer. Fold baby clothes that you’ll use at a later date, then neatly stack them in these spacious totes to have ready to pull out and put in your drawer or clothes when it comes time to use them.
For the items you’re not quite ready to use yet, a hanging door organizer can be a very efficient storage item. These organizers fit securely on a rack in your closet or over a door, while their pull-out bins and shelves house the clothes you’re waiting to use.
Over-the-door shoe organizers aren’t just for shoes, but are for organizing clothes too! These organizers have rows of multiple slots you can neatly fold and tuck your baby's clothes in for an easy grab when you’re needing something new. Since these hang over the top of a door, hide your organizer in the closet with the larger clothing sizes until you’re ready to make the swap and bring them to your dresser.
Now that you know how to organize baby clothes, it’s time to find the right nursery set up for you!
