If you’re tired of your blankets ending up on the floor or shoved in between couch cushions, it may be time to look for a stylish storage solution. Blanket ladders are the perfect addition to living rooms, bedrooms, or bathrooms to hold your throws, quilts, or towels. Read on to learn just what a blanket ladder is and how it can enhance your space.

What Is a Blanket Ladder?

A blanket ladder is a small decorative ladder that is used to display and store throw blankets or towels – these are typically hung from the ladder’s rungs. A typical blanket ladder ranges from 4–8 feet tall and between 17–24 inches wide and has anywhere from 4–6 rungs. Blanket ladders are most commonly used in living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, and mudrooms; they can hold small throws, quilts, or bath towels.

Blanket Ladder Materials

Two different types of materials are commonly used to make blanket ladders and can be used across a variety of home styles.

  • Wood: This is the most common type of blanket ladder. Choose from different wood finishes depending on what style you are looking for. Reclaimed wood and raw wood finishes are great for rustic aesthetics and go great with farmhouse, coastal, and cabin decor. Polished wood finishes can work in traditional, transitional, or modern rooms. Choose a treated wood if you plan to use your ladder in a bathroom since it will be exposed to steam and moisture often.
  • Metal: Metal is another material commonly used in blanket ladders. This material is ultra-durable and adds an aesthetic edge to modern- and industrial-style spaces. Choose a painted or treated metal if you plan to use it in a bathroom to avoid rusting.

Benefits of Using a Blanket Ladder

  • Add Style to Your Space: Regardless of whether you plan to hang blankets on it, blanket ladders make for an interesting piece of decor on their own. Place one up against a bare wall that needs sprucing up or use one to display indoor fairy or string lights for an eye-catching, ambient display. Switch decor up seasonally by donning your ladder with garlands that change with the seasons.
  • Stay Organized: If you do plan to use your blanket ladder for its intended purpose, it will make your life easier and keep your space tidier. Never be caught looking for a spare blanket for a stayover guest again. Easily find a cozy blanket when needed by storing them in one accessible place.
  • Keep Blankets Clean for Longer: Keeping your blankets on a ladder when not in use is a great way to keep them clean in between washes. When left on the couch they can easily be trampled on by four-legged friends or end up in the sticky hands of your little ones. Blankets also often end up on the floor collecting dust if they don’t have a designated place to hang.
