So what exactly is a water table? It is pretty much what it sounds like – a low table with raised sides for your toddler to play with water in. These toys are usually made from plastic and contain a number of compartments, elements, and waterproof play items that are all designed to be enjoyed when water is added. Think of it as an elevated container you can fill up and allow your child to engage with.

There is no doubt that toddlers have short attention spans and quickly grow bored when not stimulated. A water table playset is the gift that keeps on giving. These large tubs are filled with water and often waterproof toys too, allowing kids to play and enjoy these components together. Not only do they get your child outdoors, but they also keep them entertained while also benefiting their brain and motor skills. The beauty of water tables is they are conducive to both solo and group play. All you need to do is add water!

Water Table Benefits

Beyond the fact that it encourages children to get out of the house, a water playset offers a myriad of additional benefits.

Encourages Interaction: Whether your toddler is using their water table on their own or with other children, they will be developing problem-solving as well as sharing skills. Thanks to the multiple 'zones' found on these toys, there are a variety of areas your child can move between and enjoy themselves – helping stave off boredom and also giving kids a different activity to do at any given time.

Beneficial for Development: Water tables are educational toys that teach your child how to play with water and even sand in some instances. They get to practice their motor skills as they fill, pour, dunk, splash, and play. Your child's concentration span is also expanded as they focus on their play.

Additional Benefits:

  • Expands their vocabulary as they learn about each component (spade, bucket, splash).
  • Helps them learn about volume and capacity as they fill and empty toys.
  • Discover buoyancy as some items float while others don't.
  • Experience sensory exploration through textures (sand and water mixing).
  • Improve social skills when playing with others.
  • Release energy outdoors.

Water Table Materials

They are most commonly manufactured from plastic as it is waterproof and easy to clean. This material can be hosed off or wiped down and easily maintained, allowing your little one to enjoy it for longer.
