Your Guide to Comforter Sizes
Fits like a dream!
Finding the right comforter size is more than simply choosing one that matches the dimensions of your mattress. When it comes to styling your bed, comforter size is everything! Oftentimes, the decision comes down to personal preference, styling, and sleeping habits. Keep reading for a breakdown of common comforter sizes and tips to help you find the right fit for your bed.
Standard Comforter Sizes
Twin Comforter Size
Standard twin comforters range in size from 86" – 88" in length by 66" – 68" in width. Twin beds are most commonly found in kids’ bedrooms, so many twin comforters come in whimsical patterns to pique the interest of your little ones.

Twin XL Comforter Size
Twin XL comforters are 90" long by 68" wide – the same width as twin comforters but always longer. This is because twin XL beds are mainly used in college dorms for young adults who are typically taller and require more sleeping space than children.
Full Comforter Size
A full-size bed, also known as a double bed, fits a comforter that is 86" – 88" long by 81" – 84" wide. Full beds are the same length as a regular twin bed but significantly wider – making them ideal for single sleepers who like to spread out.
Queen Comforter Size
Queen comforters are 96" – 100" in length by 86" – 88" in width. These beds are often found in guest rooms or smaller primary bedrooms because they can comfortably fit two adults while still being space-efficient.

King Comforter Size
A king-size comforter will likely be 96" – 100" long and 102" wide. King beds are used in primary bedrooms and allow enough room for two adults to sleep comfortably with room to spare.
California King Comforter Size
Even more luxurious is the California king comforter which ranges in size from 98" – 110" long by 104" – 110" wide. These extra-spacious beds are intended for large primary bedrooms with ample floorspace.
Typically, comforters should hang over the sides of your mattress by an equal length on both sides and at the end of the bed. To achieve this look, choose a twin comforter for a twin bed, full comforter for a full bed, and so on. However, styling comforters can vary based on your sleeping needs and the look you are trying to achieve in your home.
When choosing a comforter size, take into consideration the height of your bed frame and the thickness of your mattress. For a thinner mattress or lower bed, stick with the recommended size comforter for your bed to achieve a perfect fit. Sizing up your comforter is always an option if you want your comforter to sweep the floor, if your bed is on a box spring and you want more coverage, or even if your partner tends to use most of the blankets at night.
