Step 1: Measure the Width

Take a tape measure and measure the width of the available space. Consider any bathroom fixtures that might require clearance, such as a shower door that swings open or a nearby bathtub that requires 30" of space. Add an extra ½" to 1" on each side to factor in the slight overhang of the vanity top. The smallest double vanity size is often 48" wide and the widest is 84".

Step 2: Measure the Depth

Next, you'll be measuring the amount of usable space you'll have to work with. Start from the wall and measure outward into the open space. As a rule of thumb, try to leave at least 30" of open floor space so that you can walk comfortably past the vanity.
