Size Considerations: How to Choose the Right Shuffleboard Dimensions
There are a few important considerations when selecting a shuffleboard for your game room. Review these steps to help you determine the right shuffleboard table dimensions for your room size and game experience.
1. Consider the Room Size
When considering shuffleboard sizes, it's important to remember the amount of space you have to work with in your game room. In addition to the size of the game table itself, you will also need 2' to 3' of space on each end of the shuffleboard so players have plenty of room for gameplay. You may also want 2' to 3' of space on each side of the shuffleboard to give spectators room to watch and enjoy.
Small Rooms: Small rooms are likely around 170–225 square feet or smaller and can accommodate up to a 9' shuffleboard table.
**Medium Rooms: A medium-sized game room might be between 250–400 square feet and can comfortably hold a 12' shuffleboard table and potentially a 14' table.
Large Rooms: Game rooms with 400+ square feet of space can accommodate a 14' or 16' shuffleboard table with room for comfortable playing and spectating.
2. Decide on Your Desired Gameplay Experience
The size shuffleboard you choose has an impact on your gameplay experience. For the most professional-grade experience, we recommend opting for shuffleboard table dimensions of 22' long by 20" wide. This is the typical regulation size that’s used in professional tournaments. Just keep in mind that the total length and width will likely be 23' long and 31" wide when including the table's border (which is also called a cradle).
Want a shuffleboard table that’s still close to professional-grade size but a bit more space-friendly? Opt for shuffleboard sizes ranging through 14', 16', and 18'. New to the game? Consider a smaller, 9' – 12' shuffleboard. These are shorter in length than professional-grade shuffleboards, which reduces the size of the playing surface and makes the game easier for beginners.
Tip!
Unless specified otherwise, table size refers to the overall length of the table, not just the playfield surface. The playfield surface may be slightly smaller in length than the overall shuffleboard dimensions. Verify the size of the playfield in the “Weight & Dimensions” tab on a product page.
3. Compare Available Shuffleboard Sizes
As mentioned above, shuffleboards are available in a variety of sizes from professional-grade options to at-home friendly models. It's important to note the length of a shuffleboard typically refers to the play surface and the table border combined, meaning the play surface may be slightly shorter. When in doubt, review the “Weight & Dimensions” tab on a product page to determine specific length and width measurements. Review these table shuffleboard dimensions to determine the best fit for your game room.
9' Shuffleboards: As the smallest size available, 9' long shuffleboards are considered the most space- and beginner-friendly. Their small profile makes them perfect for quick gameplay and easy cleaning. If you have a well-stocked game room with just enough space for a shuffleboard, this size is the best choice.
12' – 14' Shuffleboards: These shuffleboards are medium-sized, making them perfect for when you have a little more space to work with but not enough for a regulation size table. 12' – 14' shuffleboards are also great for beginners and more experienced players alike due to their versatile length.
16' Shuffleboards: These shuffleboard sizes are fairly long, though not quite professional grade. They are a more space-friendly option for residential use but give you the most room for competitive gameplay at home.
4. Factor in the Delivery Pathway
Consider the clearance space required for doorways, hallways, and stairways leading to the desired shuffleboard location when deciding on the right size. Some shuffleboards come packaged in a long piece, so you'll need to take this into account to ensure your shuffleboard can fit around corners and through doorways. Measure the height and width of your home’s entrance points to ensure you don't have any limitations when it comes to your shuffleboard table dimensions.
