6 Creative Tips on How to Declutter Your Home
It's time to edit!
Clutter can add up in your home so quickly, so it’s important to go through your cabinets and drawers at least twice a year to get rid of excess papers, files, or items that you’re holding onto that you no longer use. As for the cherished items that you use every day, below are our tips for keeping them organized and in reach.
Invest in bathroom storage.
Organizing all of your bathroom toiletries in one place is a way to declutter. Storage allows easy access to things that are needed and provides space for things that are not needed. Using clear trays inside of your drawers is also a game changer for organizing small items, such as nail polish or cotton swabs.
Declutter your closet and only keep the items that you need for your home and guests who come to visit. Keep two pairs of sheets, two sets of regular towels, beach towels, and anything else that you personally use daily. Our rule is that if you haven’t used it in over a year, consider donating it because it’s just taking up valuable space in your home.
Use baskets and boxes for storing loose items.
For items that you are keeping in your closet or linen closet, use baskets and boxes to keep them organized; especially if you have open shelving in your bathroom. Baskets categorized by hair products, facial products, cleaning solutions, etc. will keep your space organized while looking chic.
Nightstands with large drawers are quite great, because you can store items that don’t fit in your closet in your nightstands! If you have a vanity or dresser in your bedroom, you can also store miscellaneous items in these pieces of furniture. A large credenza or buffet is great for dishes, glasses, and silverware, but you can also carve out a space for placemats, party decor, and books if you don’t have a bookshelf. Storage ottomans for extra seating also provide a clever way to have extra storage in your home.
Add under-the-bed storage.
Don’t forget about the precious real estate under your bed! Buy under the bed storage bins for larger items you don’t use often, such as ski boots, tall boots, or seasonal clothing that you change out in your closet.
Drawer inserts and countertop containers will help keep all of your gadgets and tools organized. Use inserts to organize flatware, junk drawers, and more. A countertop container is great for keeping your most-used items in reach, so they don’t clutter your drawers.
