Easy Closet Ideas You Can DIY
Transform your space in the blink of an eye.
Closets are often a forgotten space in a home, and they easily become overcrowded with items we never even use. The best closets are clean and simple with a heavy emphasis on organization and functionality. Turn your closet into something worth showing off with these easy DIY closet ideas.

Some entryways can feel cramped, especially if they have a closet. To make the space more open and inviting, consider converting your closet into a built-in mudroom.
The first step is to remove the closet doors and baseboards. Next you can either use two-by-fours and plywood to create a bench seat with storage underneath or opt for a pre-made storage bench that fits the space (just make sure to measure the width and depth of your closet first). You also have options with the wall paneling and shelf: DIY or purchase pre-made items. Add storage baskets to ensure everything has its own place for a finishing touch. You can store shoes, jackets, umbrellas, hats, and more right where you need them.

If you have enough storage space in a bedroom, you can also transform a barely used closet into a reading nook. Remove the closet doors and insert a bench for a cozy retreat. You can create your own bench using two-by-fours, plywood, and trim boards for the base, or you can order an upholstered bench. Place blankets and throw pillows on the bench to make it even more comfortable.. Add built-in shelves on the sides to allow for a functional place to store books or toys for a child's room. Opt for fun wallpaper to make the nook more decorative and a focal point of the room.
If you're looking for a closet DIY idea that's simple and affordable, try a bold paint color. Remove the closet doors and choose a paint color that's complementary to the rest of the room. That's it! This look is perfect if clothes are stored mainly in dressers, since a cluttered closet will not look good without doors. The closet can become the focal point of the room.
This idea is perfect if you have a small room. Instead of taking up floor space in the room, empty the closet of the closet rod and rail system and place your dresser there instead. Cover the inside of the closet with shiplap for a clean and simple look. Hang a mirror over the dresser and it's complete – a quick and easy transformation!
If you find you don't use the clothes rail (or your closet comes with two, but you only need one!), add in shelves instead. First, remove the clothes rail and rods or the bottom rail, then add in shelving. You can choose white shelving for a more neutral look or a pop of color that complements the rest of the room for a bolder look. Add storage baskets to keep everything organized. To spruce it up even more, add wallpaper to the back of the closet.
