5 Simple Ways to Refresh Your Kids' Bedrooms

With summer kicking off, it’s a great time to plan ahead and give your kids’ bedrooms a refresh. What better way to kick-off the coming hot months and future academic calendar than with a little home rejuvenation? Oftentimes when decorating, the kids’ rooms are overlooked, but not this time. We’ve come up with some fun solutions for you to hit the refresh button on your home with kid-approved looks and styles.
1. Be Bold
When your kids don’t have a particular style that they’re interested in (or don’t seem to care what happens in their room if they’re not around), it’s easy to splash eggshell white across the walls and call it a day. Instead, choose a bright and bold color to instantly invigorate the space and create a cohesive look without the added effort. A bold blue, poppy purple, or lime green will perk up the room and inspire the kids to get a jumpstart on their homework.
2. Light & White
If you’ve been blessed with children that don’t draw on the walls, our favorite decor idea is a bright and inviting room with a lot of light to give the kids a serene space to hang out and play. Use a neutral palette for the base colors and overall aesthetic, and offset the brightness with dark splashes of color like navy and red to add depth and warmth. For a more lived-in style, use some of the kids’ old decorations from their nurseries or old rooms to add authenticity.
3. Subtle & Sophisticated
It seems like just yesterday your little girl wanted a room decorated with fairies and elephants. Today? She wants a grown-up space that perfectly suits her high school career. For the young adult in your family, we love the idea of simple, elegant decor. It’s not too young and not too old and pairs well with old furnishings and new style ideas. Use childhood pictures and frames to create a gallery wall on one side of the room and decorate the rest of the space with modest pieces like small nightstands and table lamps.
When you send your little one off to preschool for the first time, you may notice you’ve got a little extra time to reinvent the playroom or nursery. While you have some free time on your hands, you should craft a space that you two can enjoy together come pickup time. Choose one of your kid’s favorite stories or songs and make it a theme for the room complete with wallpaper, colors, toys, and decor.
5. Go Blue or Go Home
Tried and true, navy blue is our number one choice for an instant facelift in any room. While it might seem like the go-to for a boy’s room, it can easily be translated into a more feminine style with lighter blue complementary colors and soft textures like scalloped lace curtains and silk pillows. To make it unabashedly boyish, try using his sports memorabilia as decor and pairing it with lamps and sheets of the same colors as his favorite team for an instant win.
