1. What is your No. 1 rule when taking on a bathroom renovation?

Make sure to thoroughly discuss your wants and requirements for the bathroom. Once plumbing is engineered and tile is placed, it's very hard to make any changes. So make sure to review all possible functionalities for the bathroom in advance.

2. Are there any need-to-know measurements for a bathroom?

Yes! Measurements are key when selecting hardware and assigning placement. We have learned all of these the hard way! For example, there needs to be enough space between where the sink faucet is placed and where your hands go under the water; also make sure you know how tall each user is because a short shower head can cause problems. Be sure to consult your plumber with all specs in advance.

3. What are your top three tricks for small bathroom storage? * Concealed Storage. You can hide anything and everything behind closed doors!

  • Staging. If you don't have space for a linen closet, try rolling up towels and placing them along the tub or inside the shower. We often incorporate niches into the design of our client's showers for the purpose of storing towels, shampoo bottles, and more for a "spa-like" look.

  • Go Vertical. Don't be afraid to add height with shelving, allowing for more areas to place items.
  • 4. If the budget is tight, what are the places to spend and where should you save

Splurge on hardware, such as faucet spouts, knobs, shower heads, and door handles. These pieces, when selected in the right colour and shape, can really make everything in a room look more expensive than it is. Save on tile your selection. There are so many affordable and beautiful glass tile options, as well as porcelain tiles, that will make a bathroom look beautiful without having to use marble or other more expensive materials.

5. Do you have any rules when it comes to tile selection?

Our only rule is that all materials used must be fully functional in a wet area. Be especially careful when applying wallpaper and hanging window treatments. These materials should be moisture-resistant and the hardware used to install window treatments should be rust-resistant.

6. What should you know before hiring a plumber?

Before hiring a plumber, determine exactly what you need because plumbers handle a variety of tasks. Determine ahead of time if you are looking for help with laying new plumbing, installing fixtures, or handling stoppages because different plumbing companies often specialize in one of those areas. You want to make sure you receive the most qualified service for your money.
