#1 Prep a Well-Stocked Nightstand

  • A Wi-Fi password on display looks extra-special framed.
  • Set out a glass and carafe for drinks, or a few bottles of water.
  • Choose bedside lights between 26 and 28 inches tall, so guests can read without the lightbulb shining in their eyes.

#2 Clear Out Your Belongings

If possible, remove your clothes from the dresser and closet to give your guests a true room of their own in your home. In the closet, place hangers, additional pillows and blankets, and a fan for comfort.

Sometimes we can't relocate our items because there simply isn't enough room. In that case, clear out a specific drawer or section of the closet and let your guests know it's available.

#3 Make a Guest Basket

Grab an empty basket and fill it with anything your guests might need or have forgotten. These essentials can range from hotel-sized toiletries and magazines to a mug from your kitchen filled with cocoa or tea bags.

Some of our favourite items to include are a guide with local things to do, a favourite book, and a scented candle.

#4 Go Above and Beyond

  • A luggage rack will give your guest bedroom a hotel feel.
  • Leave mints or chocolates on their pillows the first night—they'll get a kick out of it and you'll start their stay on the right foot!
  • The addition of a new headboard or pair of nightstands will give the space a fresh look your guests will appreciate.
