Teenage Boy Bedroom Decorating Ideas
Be creative with your teen’s room!
The older kids get, the more time they seem to spend in their room. As they get older, their interests change, and it’s important their rooms are a reflection of their hobbies. Everyone should love falling asleep and waking up in their room. With these five tips, you will be able to create the perfect bedroom for your teenager!
With age comes new interests. In order to encourage these interests, it’s a great idea to incorporate them into their bedroom design. This sample homeowner has a teenage boy who loves robotics and art, so they gave him an extra-long desk to accommodate both interests. One side can be utilized for building and the other for sitting and drawing with a place to put his artwork. It was also important for the parents to provide a quiet place for their oldest child to complete homework and avoid distractions.
Provide Comfortable Seating
Hanging around is something teens do quite a bit of. Maybe they are doing homework, reading a book, or texting friends, but no matter what the task, they need a comfortable place to sit. In this room, you will see a leather butterfly chair with a soft pillow. It’s the perfect place to cozy up next to the window with a blanket to read a book. Other great options for bedroom seating could be a bean bag, floor pillows, or even a modular loveseat. Get kids involved in choosing their furniture so it’s a true reflection of their personality!
Teenagers like to make statements, so don’t be afraid to give their room one too! In this bedroom, the homeowners had ceiling tiles that were already in place to cover up an old plaster ceiling. Rather than removing this and creating a bigger mess, the homeowners used this opportunity to make a bold statement and paint the ceiling black. They balanced out the darker ceiling with light walls and a light rug so the space didn't feel too small.
Every kid needs storage in their room. As you can see, in this bedroom there was a built-in cabinet that the homeowners updated with new hardware and fresh paint. If built-in furniture is not an option, consider purchasing furniture with closed storage, drawers, or a bookshelf to tame all their belongings.
Designing spaces for other people can sometimes be challenging, especially if they have no interest in the design process. However, listening to their wants, needs, and hobbies can help you create a functional space for anyone to enjoy. Listening to your teen allows you to create spaces and add decor that appeals to his lifestyle.
