Tip!
A cowhide rug is a great way to add pattern to a room and can be layered over a traditional rug.

Pattern

Lots of people give neutral colours a bad rap. They think neutral means boring and that's just not true! There are a number of ways you can create a neutral room that is interesting and beautiful.

Pattern is key. In this room, the pattern on the walls makes a statement and provides a focal point to a very neutral room. There's no way you could describe this room as bland!

Tip!
Use elements from nature to bring colour into the room. The organic shapes and colours will blend nicely into a neutral room.

Pops of Colour

Just because a room is neutral doesn't mean it needs to be devoid of any colour. Using colour strategically maintains the calm feeling of a neutral room but adds some personality.

The blue headboard in this room does its job well. Smaller accent pieces add the same colour on a smaller scale, blending it into the rest of the space.

    Tip!
Try a metallic night stand to add a touch of glam to your neutral room.

    Metallics

Metallic pieces are a wonderful way to add a little shine to a neutral room. Wall mirrors and smaller scale furniture are easy ways to incorporate this trend.

This bedroom in Michael Bublé's home features an oversized floor mirror that not only complements the subtle metallic duvet pattern, but also makes the room feel much larger. Double win!

    Tip!
Use blankets with different knits in complementary colours to add extra softness to a room.

    Texture

Texture is a great way to add a lush feeling to a neutral room. Even in cooler colours, texture can make a room feel cozy and comfortable.

The brick wall and layers of blankets on the bed help add texture to this bedroom.
