I installed the rods at exactly 48 inches. They feel lightweight but sturdy, and the hanging brackets feel sturdy too. The instructions were a little unclear, and I wasn’t sure what the extra screws were for, but I was able to install them. If you have the space, I’d recommend choosing a larger size for more support in the middle. I don’t plan to pack mine tightly; I’ll use them for my seasonal and most-worn clothes.

The rods were easy to install and get the job done, but they don’t feel as sturdy as ones I’ve purchased in the past. We’re using them in our kids’ closets, so they’re fine for lighter clothing. I’d be a little concerned about using them in my own closet with heavier adult clothes.
