I bought 3 of these barrels for areas were water tended to accumulate hoping it would mitigate some of that. It fills up quickly and so those areas still flood. I had to buy a pump to be able to empty them quickly. Also the mesh needs to be cleaned regularly other wise it clogs and also don’t forget to use those disks that kill mosquito larva.

I spent way too long looking for rain barrels. It seemed unnecessarily hard to find one and to have basic questions answered. I got this one and it’s great. Here is some info I wish I had to cut down on the search time: - It is round. This is not one of those barrels that is flat across the back - It does not use diversion. You put this one under your downspout. The top is concave so it collects water and directs it through a removable but sturdy screen that is screwed into the top. You don’t have to connect the downspout to the lid- it can just hang somewhere above the lid of the barrel. If you want to connect the downspout, then you probably could do so. - The top is removable, which was important to me for cleanliness. The top is supposed to “lock” into place, but the design for the locking mechanism is inexplicably poor and does not work. I just shove the top down with brute force but I had hoped for better for safety reasons. The lid also interferes with a small, screen mesh they give you to cover two overflow holes on the side of the barrel near the top. The overflow hole screen also did not align with the predrilled holes so I had to drill a new hole to put the screen on. The overflow hole screen may not even be necessary. The holes are small and only insects could make their way in, so this may not be a big deal, but worth mentioning as it was annoying. Overall I’m still happy I got a removable top. - The barrel comes with a stand. The stand is inside the barrel. I was unclear about this and pleasantly surprised to see it. It is helpful to have the stand for emptying water. - There are two brass spigots. One is mid way up and the other is on the bottom few inches. They come with plumbers tape. I did not have the leaking issues others complain about, but I was very careful to tape the grooves and meticulously screw the spigots in without jumping grooves (easier said than done). The spigots are standard size and can hook up to a hose. They release water well, but the flow of water is not sufficient work with a long hose. It might be for a short hose or a drip irrigation system but that is TBD. - It came in one large box. The barrel is in one piece, with the lid and stand inside. The spigots and tape and hardware are in a bag that is taped around the screen to the lid. Remove the screen with a screwdriver to avoid damaging it before attempting to take away the bag of hardware. Tools are not provided. You just need a Phillips screwdriver and some hand strength for the spigots. The package was not heavy - about 30 pounds and the box fit in the back of my Subaru Crosstrek, but it was snug. - The design is nice. The color is dark but it looks authentic. It doesn’t look cheap. Overall, very happy with this so far.
